Synopsis

Newbery Medal winner Sharon Creech and Caldecott Medal winner David Diaz present, in short poems and songs, the life of a newborn baby.--17 full color illustrations of babies accompany the 17 poems

Description

Beautiful full color illustrations complement poems and songs that tell of a new baby's life as he or she meets the family or learns about life. Poems include titles such as: Baby in the Basket, Pearly Girl, Joy Boy, Football Baby, Two Big Grandmas, Grandpa, and Leaky Baby. There are 17 poems in total. One of the poems is titled, Books. "They plop me on their laps And open up the books And read-read-read In up-and-down voices." This is a 2005 copyright book.

Why I chose this book

This book would be a perfect gift to give new parents. The words seem to come from the baby itself. Perhaps these imagined words from a baby will help parents imagine what their little one is thinking. The poems are short; each page is filled with a colorful expressive baby--babies of different races. I believe parents, grandparents, older siblings, or babysitters will enjoy reading (or singing with made-up melodies) the poems to a special baby in their lives.
