The night little hippo lost his big molar it was pouring rain.  The tooth fairy has a bad cold and doesn't want to be out flying on such a rainy night.  This set of circumstances serves to give little hippo quite an adventure of his own and proves to him that, yes indeed, there is a tooth fairy. Young readers will take great delight in the one-day-in-the-life exploits of pajama-clad Little Hippo and the no-nonsense Tooth Fairy.  They will also laugh out loud at the lively and comically expressive illustrations, done in richly colored oils that convey and complement the tongue-in-cheek tone of the story.

Why I chose this book

I like this story for the illustrations alone.  They are such fun.  Lois Grambling has created a purple little hippo with green and white striped pajamas and a tooth fairy with a pink dress, wings and three stars floating above her reddish hair.  The tooth fairy is a "hoot." She admits her wings are attached with superglue.  The dialog is clever and engaging between little hippo and the tooth fairy.  I chose this book because it is fun!
