Why You Will Like Bard of Avon by Diane Stanley

This biography of William Shakespeare gives a rounded picture of his life including most of the well-known facts about his life, of his time, and of his theater. Diane Stanley's presents the biography as if she were trying to solve the mystery of Shakespeare's life. It is fascinating reading.

Synopsis

Bard of Avon, the story of William Shakespeare begins with the arrival of a company of traveling actors coming to Stratford-on-Avon when Shakespeare was five years old. Ms. Stanley continues the tale by describing England and theater at that time. She recounts Shakespeare's marriage to Anne Hathaway and his desertion of her, their daughter and twins to travel to London. The description of theater during Shakespeare's early days in London is very informative and often humorous. Stanley also introduces the reader to Shakespeare's plays, his main characters, and the Globe Theater.
