Synopsis

Petey the puppy searches throughout the town to find a boy for Christmas.--A Reading Rainbow Book

Description

The endearing children's dog story, "The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy" was first published by Mulberry Books in 1988. HarperCollins republished the story in 2003. This Christmas picture book follows the adventures of a cute frisky brown puppy named Petey who only has one Christmas wish. He wants a boy for Christmas. After Mama dog does some hunting and discovers boys to be of short supply, Petey begins the search himself. He finds several dogs with boys. But, none of these dogs wants to give up his boy to Petey. On Christmas Eve Petey's dream comes true--and more.

Why I chose this book

The illustrations by Lisa McCue are wonderful. She makes the Benji-looking Petey appear so lovable. Any young reader will be rooting for the puppy to find his boy in time for Christmas.
