Synopsis
Mudworks by MaryAnn F. Kohl offers its readers 142 activities using clay-based medium for classrooms, home, daycare, homeschool, gifted programs, art class, church, camp, and scouts.
Description
MaryAnn Kohl has put together a treasury of how-to creations using mud related materials. This book of art exploration is suitable for classrooms, home, daycare, homeschool, art classes, church school, camp, and scouts. The book is user-friendly. It is divided into chapters by the medium used in the art works (play dough, papier-mache, etc.). Each activity is marked with icons in the upper page corner to let you know which projects are most suitable for your child. The icons identify which activities need cooking before use, which art objects can be baked for permanence, which ones require adult supervision for all ages, and the age appropriateness. There is a table of contents listing the 118 different clay, dough, and modeling experiences. The book also contains a 4-page resource guide with bibliography, index, a “where to find” section and a listing of commercial clay and modeling products. Three examples of dough that seem particularly interesting are: peanut butter play dough, plastic jello, and stained glass dough.
Why I chose this book
This book is another example of an activity book that cries out to be used by parents, grandparents, teachers, and children. It is a wonderful resource for those who are looking for creative art activities. There are activities here to be used in particular seasons and those that are good for anytime or place. This book encourages children to create and to explore using the common simple materials found around the house.
