After Miles' parents ask him to practice outside, he joins with three other musicians to form a Swamp Band. They are invited to play at the Alligator Ball. Miles is delighted but he doesn't know what the alligators have in mind for the refreshments. This is a humorous lively book for young readers with clever language and very comical illustrations. The last page of the book includes music and lyrics for the title song, Mama Don't Allow.
Each page of the story is filled with colorful primary colors depicting the characters of the Swamp Band and the dancing alligators; the words are sparce and probably could be read fairly easily by a beginning reader. This is not to say that this is a "simple" book of repetition. There is so much humor on every page that adults will fully enjoy Mama don't Allow

I chose this book simply for its humor and bright colors. This is a book to lighten the spirit and bring a smile and laughter to the reader.
