Why an Aspiring Artist Will Like Michelangelo by Diane Stanley

Michelangelo id not have an easy life, but he had great talent and passion for art. In this biography of Michelangelo Buonarrotti, the young art student can follow Michelangelo's career from a young boy living with stone cutters, as an apprentice in Florence learning fresco painting, meeting de' Medici, to his commissioning of the Sistine Chapel ceiling in St. Peter's Cathedral. The book is filled with facts but is easy to read. Illustrations are plentiful and informative.

Synopsis

Michelangelo by Diane Stanley follows the creative life of the great renaissance artist from his early days as a stone cutter and apprentice of fresco painting to his days of great commissions such as the Sistine chapel ceiling, the David, and the Pietà. Ms. Stanley explores the personality of Michelangelo, his clashes with pope Julius, his perfectionism, his rivalry with Leonardo da Vinci. The biography will draw you into Michelangelo's world where you will experience, in text, his triumphs and his tragedies. --recommended for all art educators as well as students of visual arts. The biography of DaVinci by Stanley is written for slightly older children than the biography by Mike Venezia which would appeal to younger readers.
