Synopsis

"Christmas Day in the Morning" is a classic Christmas tale of love by Pulitzer and Nobel prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck. The original 1955 classic tale of a farm boy's surprise for his dad is interwoven with the Christian message of the first Christmas. Most appropriate for intermediate readers, all ages will be captivated by the gentle, humble tone of the text.

Description

Originally published in 1955 the classic "Christmas Day in the Morning" has been issued for the first time as a Christmas picture book with full-color glorious art by Mark Buehner. A young farm boy, not having much money to give his dad store-bought gifts, awakens Christmas morning deciding to do his dad's farm chores. Pearl Buck's classic is about the love of a boy for his father and of giving a gift of love. Rob is inspired to give his gift when reminded of the first gifts given in a barn--those of the Wise Men to the Christ Child. The two-page creche scene in the center of the book is a reminder of why Christians celebrate Christmas. The story is written from the Christian perspective; however, Pearl Buck's inspirational Christmas story of the giving of the heart is one for people of all faiths.

Why I chose this book

There are many "glitzy" stories written about the Christmas season. What I liked about this story is its simplicity and goodness of heart. The message of "Christmas Day in the Morning" says to me, "slow down, think about other people first, give of yourself."

What others say

"A welcome addition to everyone's holiday collection, this timeless treasure will bring the true meaning of Christmas to the entire family for generations to come." --HarperCollins Publishers
