Why young and old like Charlotte's Web

This classic by E. B. White is often listed as a top one-hundred best books for children. The tale of the friendship between Charlotte and Wilbur is one humans should try to emulate. The story has all the great elements of a classic--adventure, life and death, pleasure and pain.


Wilbur is saved from becoming bacon by escaping. He is saved from loneliness by Charlotte and her unselfish friendship. Besides Charlotte and Wilbur the reader meets a little girl named Fern and a mouse named Templeton. Charlotte's Web has been made into a major motion picture and debuts during Christmas, 2006.


Charlotte's Web was first published in 1952. It became immensely popular and was named a Newbery Medal Winner in 1953. The story is timeless and will be enjoyed by all ages. The chapters are about 10 pages in length making this a good bedtime tale. The text is accompanied by black and white illustrations throughout.
