Why You will Like Apples and Pumpkins

The illustrations of the red-cheeked little girl, the red apples and orange pumpkins and the orange and yellow-leaved trees make this a very appealing book for fall. If books can be cozy, this one fits the adjective. Young children should find it very appealing.

Synopsis

A little girl goes with her mom and dad to the Comstock Farm to pick apples and select the biggest pumpkin for the Halloween Jack-o’-lattern.

Description

Anne Rockwell and her daughter Lizzy have created a nostalgic look at fall. The pictures of red apples and bright orange pumpkins tell the story of a family involved in a fall ritual. This is a cheerful story that concludes with the carving of the pumpkin and the little girl going trick-or-treating up and down her block on Halloween night. The words are few and are of large print making this a good beginning reader picture book.

Caps for Sale

Esphyr Slobodkina has recreated an old folk tale about a peddlar selling caps and a band of monkeys who have their own ideas for those hats, monkey business. Ms. Slobodkina's bright colorful illustrations of the gray, brown, blue, and red caps all balancing on the peddlars head and then on the heads of the mischievious monkeys adds to the fun of Caps for Sale.
