Synopsis of The Little Ballerina

The Little Ballerina is a picture book meant for young girls, ages 3 to 8, either taking ballet or wanting to be in a ballet class. Author Ross describes the excitement of Little Ballerina as she goes to her final rehearsal before the big recital. Ross and Petach illustrate very well what happens at a beginning ballet class: the dance steps practiced at the barre and the Center Work. Each step is named (tendus) and given the English pronunciation (tahn-DOOS). The ballerina's faces are so descriptive as they concentrate on perfecting their steps or respond to Mamzelle's instructions. This is a must-have for young ballet students.
